The perfect pillows can make any bed, sofa, chair or bench in your home feel cozier! Let's discuss how to achieve this without breaking the bank.

Ever wonder why your furniture appears flat or your living room lacks warmth? This was an issue my clients had before I started working with them. Throw pillows are so important for adding texture to a room while also softening masculine textiles, such as the leather on a sofa! Throws will help break up or incorporate patterns and colours into a space without becoming too overwhelming. You can do this with a simple blanket too. I promise a more luxuriously looking living space can be done on a budget - let's get into it.

The secret here is to find pillow inserts with optimal chopping value. Then you can swap out seasonal covers as you choose. Who doesn't like to find a dual purpose for their items?! No need to have the same number of inserts as you do covers. Covers can be easily tucked away between holidays or seasons while you continue to use those favourite inserts on a daily. Almost forgot the secret - specifically down-filled inserts (real or faux) will be your best friend. Feather inserts can get expensive quickly but there are some ways around this.

Here is a look at my favourite combinations:

1. IKEA feather-filled inserts

I struggled for years to find inserts that were high quality and stayed plump - until I discovered these pillow inserts! What's even better is that they are under $20 for a 20x20 and under $30 for a 26x26. Pillows can range from $30-300 each... therefore this is a great way to get the same quality for WAY less. If you want to achieve a fuller look, I suggest double-stuffing them or purchasing inserts slightly larger than your covers. They are the best pillow inserts for chopping on a budget!

Pillow chopping: adding a crease to the top of a pillow using the side of your hand to encourage the pillow to appear fuller, and fluffier while retaining its shape.

2. SUNDAYSCO pillow covers

Visit my friend, Brook's, online store (Sundaysco) for stunning, handmade pillow covers that provide both texture and charm. I incorporated the "penny" 20 x 20 covers in my home recently. The Penny was one of my favourites as it hints towards a vintage aesthetic. The texture and attention to detail on these covers is outstanding. Better yet - they are a Canadian company and have a zipper fastener hidden on the back, making the covers easy to swap out with the seasons or throw in the wash.

Of course, the world is your limit when it comes to covers but be careful not to sacrifice quality. The cost of the inserts allow you to splurge a little more on the statement piece - that beautiful cover itself!

If you decide to give this fool-proof combination a try in your home, tag me! I would love to see which covers you fall in love with.
