Forgotten Spaces: Tips for Creating a Bathroom with Style.

When styling a home, many spaces are often neglected. Homeowners typically decorate their mantels, shelving, kitchen counters, and nightstands, but the bathroom is frequently missed. Decorating a bathroom might sound impractical (and it definitely can be) - but there are intentional ways that a bathroom can be embellished. Creating simple vignettes out of practical items can give you a feeling of calm and relaxation during a hot steamy shower or a rejuvenating soak.

I achieved this in my main bathroom by adding some dried olive tree branches to a clay pot and placing them on a wooden stool. This stool is functional as it is used occasionally to reach the top shelf of the linen closet beside the shower. The addition of a fresh linen-scented candle adds to this styling moment as an additional useable piece.

My partner and I both enjoy relaxing to the scent of a lit candle, making it convenient to have one located beside the tub for use. While this collection of items is simple, it incorporates additional green and wood tones to tie in the wall art hanging adjacent to it.

The addition of the stool grounds the space, preventing the art from appearing as if it is floating. This vignette adds beauty and charm into an otherwise plain bathing space. These elements introduce texture, visual beauty, and a scent that greets my clients whenever they use their bathroom. This is your sign to elevate your bathroom styling by adding florals and your favourite scent to enhance your self-care routine. You may even thank me later.

Powder rooms offer a different level of design opportunity as they lend themselves to a more creative choices. They are small but can make a grand impression - and they should if they are a space your guests will see most! You can go dark and moody, bright and playful and you can even venture to painting or wallpapering the ceiling! The sky is your limit when it comes to a little two piece washroom so have fun with it!

I opted for the dark and moody approach as paint is the cheapest and easiest way to make an impact. The walls in our powder room are PPU24-01 Black Mocha by Behr; it offers a rich, dark brown hue while appearing as a warm charcoal colour in the shadows. Pairing this colour with thrifted champagne gold picture frames results in a sophisticated, feminine charm that will last the test of time.
